It is always good for professionals to combine the right sets of expertise. For someone involved with IT infrastructure projects, ITIL is a great complementary certification. What I find is that often the specialty knowledge drives the PRODUCT of efforts, but the project management skills drives the PROJECT that produces the PRODUCT. On solid technical teams, that second mindset is often missing.BackgroundWhen you get any level experience in the workplace, you realize that the world is a collection of operations and projects. We are always seeking to systematize where possible, to streamline operations, and to improve results. We are always trying to create a "business as usual", "runs by itself" environment, although in reality the full achievement of this is elusive. For more detail go to www.positive-idea.com We are always cognizant of change in external conditions, and of the need to be proactive in changing our operations when necessary. This intersection of operations and project management, is, I believe, where ITIL and project management come together. The IT Infrastructure Library® (ITIL®) describes a set of best practices processes for stable, high quality IT services. I recently encountered a woman who was repatriating back to the US, having spent much of the past 15 years in Europe. She had extensive project management experience and had her own consulting company in Europe. She said that, as part of her 're-integration' to the US market, she needed a certification, a credential that would carry some weight and open some doors, as many people she was meeting were asking her. We discussed the PMP, but after a few days, she remarked to me that she was aghast at how things had changed in the US during her time abroad. She expressed that she thought this whole certification 'craze' was difficult and bureaucratic, and she questioned the value of it.Undoubtedly there are some frustrations and challenges with certifications today, as there are processes, procedures, and rules to consider. However, I think that is only 'one side of the coin'. Yes, you have to work hard to get certified, and you need to make the effort to remain certified. You also need to five careful consideration and identify which certification(s) make the most sense for your career. At the same time, most of us can easily identify individuals who are not certified that arguably are better at what they do than some who ...

What is ITIL and Why Should Anyone Care? When people ask me what I do for a living – and I answer that I teach ITIL – the next question usually is the one above: what is ITIL and (implied by the look on their apparently troubled faces) why should anyone care anyway? Well those are the questions I wanted to address in this article. However, before we talk about ITIL itself, we should first, at least, mention the more general subject of Service Management. The discipline of Service Management began with organisations like banks and airlines wanting to improve their customer experience; and put simply, ITIL is the application of Service Management principles to the business of managing IT operations. When people are new to ITIL, they always want to know what words the acronym explodes into; and although that is quite a story in it’s own right, for the purposes of this article, we will simply state that the guidance is known as ITIL for historical reasons; and the ITIL acronym stands for the following …I – InformationT TechnologyI – InfrastructureL – Library… and straight away that gives us a clue. We all know what a library is – it’s a set of books; and that is also, at one level, what ITIL ...

Over the past few years, the ITIL has helped many IT companies to form long-lasting and fruitful working relationships with their customers through the use of highly effective tools such as Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs). Both these tools are quite effective, but the problem is that they deliver the desired results only when they are properly implemented. The inability to use the tools in the prescribed manner can render them completely useless - and in the worst case scenario, can even lead to conflicts between the IT company and its customers. This is why it becomes necessary to implement proven process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma that help in deriving the maximum benefits from a proposed change in business processes, which in this case are the SLAs and OLAs.Why Six Sigma? It is necessary to utilize Six Sigma concepts and methodologies while drafting SLAs and OLAs because most business processes that are in use are quite complex. It is very difficult to predict the variations in outcome based solely on personal experience, past records, or the gut feelings of the manager.Since SLAs and OLAs are based on quality requirements of the customers, it makes sense to use a data driven approach such as Six Sigma to make changes ...

Fast Track to IT SuccessITIL training underpins the world's most successful framework for IT Service Management. Pulling together the best practice methods from public and private sectors ITIL is pivotal in ensuring efficient service delivery and in meeting IT Governance objectives.Re-launched in 2007 in the form of Version 3, ITIL now includes a host of new training courses and qualifications, including various bridging courses which are now available. For those with existing ITIL certifications a bridging course will allow you to upgrade your knowledge and fast track your Version 3 qualifications. This article explains who these courses will benefit and how they work.1. ITIL Version 3 - What Makes it Different? The latest version of ITIL builds on its existing well established approaches but interprets them in the context of service lifecycle. It recognizes the shift that has occurred over the last few years as IT and IS operations have become integral to all modern organisations, rather than existing as a bolt on function. The earlier editions of ITIL were defined by a number of key processes and for the most part, these remain important within the new structure. The new aspects of ITIL V3 reflect a change in the role of IT within modern organisations:• Service strategy as the central driver• Emphasis on ...

Any IT organization strives to satisfy its customers and offer the best services possible. IT infrastructure, operations and development of IT can be found in proyecto ITIL. ITIL is short for Information Technology Infrastructure Library, which is a set of techniques and concepts for managing all important aspects of IT. Implementing ITIL and certificacion ISO 20000 are crucial for a well functioning IT organization. Unfortunately, even if information about certificacion ISO 2000 and implementing proyecto ISO can be found on the Internet, the resources and the expertise necessary for such a project are beyond the capabilities of many IT organizations. However, certificacion ISO 2000 and proyecto ITIL can be implemented with the help of specialized consulting services. No matter what country you are from, whether you are in Spain or in the United States, good consulting services can be found.Certificacion ISO 20000 is very difficult but also necessary. If you wish to receive an ISO 20000 certification, first of all your organization must be accredited and so must your trainers, the ones you are using to deliver the training. Certificacion ISO 20000 has two stages. The first stage requires a thorough examination of your proposed training. It also contains aspects addressing the trainers and the organization. The second stage is the thorough examination ...
